Methanol supply about to expand
A SPRINGTIME COLLAPSE in demand has triggered a decline in the price of methanol, a chemical used to make products ranging from windshield washer fluid to paints, from plastics to plywood. In fact, Gulf Coast spot-market values in April are down by around 55% since the start of the year. Lead-times, meanwhile, have shrunk to just about two months for producer delivery. Deliveries probably will get quicker soon since several methanol plants in Trinidad are boosting supply-reopening the month and last after catalyst replacement and some additional upgrading work.
